
HIV Prevention Program
Within the period of 2007-2014, GMG has implemented 6 ”HIV and STIs Programs” funded by the US Department of Defence. In total 35,000 military personnel have been trained. A special emphasis was made for the groups serving in international missions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Central African Republic. The trainings were also extended to officers and medical personnel in the form of ToTs (Training of Trainers).
4 VCT laboratories have been reequipped at the following military bases: Krtsanisi, Senki, Kutaisi and Vaziani. All project participants have been supplied informations booklets.
Objectives of the program
- To improve the understanding of HIV/AIDS, STI among military troops and support prevention of STI/AIDS in this target group
- To provide information on HIV/AIDS and STIs transmission and ways of their prevention through slides, lectures, booklets and mini books prepared
- To foster more open dialogue about healthy life, HIV/AIDS and STIs and to aid in consciousness rising, knowledge acquisition, attitude modification and behavior change.
